Admissions Criteria

Meadowcroft School provides specialist education for children and young people aged 5 to 19 years.

All pupils admitted to the school will:

  • Have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP)
  • Have identified social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs and/or a diagnosis of autism, or present behaviors associated with autism
  • Typically be assessed within the low average to above average ability range

Some pupils may also:

  • Have learning difficulties or low attainment linked to their SEMH and/or autism-related needs
  • Present with specific learning difficulties associated with autism, complex learning and communication needs, or additional needs such as dyslexia, dyspraxia and dyscalculia
  • Benefit from the school’s therapeutic and wellbeing-focused approach

Admissions Process

All admissions to Meadowcroft School are made through a Local Authority (LA) referral.

Once a referral is received, the school carefully reviews the information provided to ensure the pupil’s needs align with our admissions criteria. If the school feels it may be an appropriate placement, arrangements will be made for the pupil and their parent(s)/carer(s) to visit the school.

The visit will include:

  • A tour of the school
  • An introduction to key staff
  • A meeting to discuss the school’s curriculum, provision, and policies

Parents, carers and pupils will have the opportunity to ask any questions and gain a full understanding of the provision on offer.

If, following the visit, all parties agree that Meadowcroft School can meet the pupil’s needs and there is a commitment to the placement, admission arrangements will be progressed in partnership with the Local Authority.

Pupil Numbers and Class Sizes

Meadowcroft School offers places for up to 146 pupils, including girls and boys aged 5 to 19.

  • Classes typically have no more than six pupils, ensuring a highly personalised learning experience
  • In some cases, such as vocational or specialist courses, alternative groupings may be planned
  • The school provides day placements for pupils from local and neighbouring Local Authorities
