Welcome to Meadowcroft School. We are an independent specialist school supporting children and young people aged 5–19 with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). Every pupil joins us with their own strengths, aspirations and individual needs, and our role is to provide the right environment, relationships and opportunities for them to thrive.

Our virtual tour offers an insight into each of our specialist learning environments. Every site has been thoughtfully designed to provide the right balance of nurture, structure and challenge, ensuring that pupils learn in an environment which best matches their individual learning profile.

Education at Meadowcroft is enhanced by an integrated therapeutic approach. The Lodge

The Lodge is Meadowcroft’s specialist all-through provision, supporting children and young people aged 5–19 within a calm, highly personalised learning environment. Designed to meet a wide range of complex learning, communication and sensory needs, The Lodge provides a safe, nurturing space where every pupil is supported to learn, grow and develop at their own pace.

Learning at The Lodge is centred around each pupil’s individual strengths, interests and aspirations. Our multidisciplinary team works closely together to deliver a personalised curriculum that develops communication, emotional regulation, independence and essential life skills alongside meaningful academic learning. A range of specialist teaching spaces, sensory environments and therapeutic facilities ensure that pupils receive the support they need to engage successfully in school life.

Relationships are at the heart of everything we do. By combining high-quality education with integrated therapeutic support, The Lodge enables every child and young person to develop confidence, experience success and prepare for the next stage of their education and adult life in an environment where they truly belong.

The Gallery

The Gallery is situated in the leafy suburb of St John’s, Wakefield, just an eight-minute walk from Wakefield Westgate railway station. Housed within a beautiful listed building, the site combines character and history with spacious, well-equipped learning environments across three floors.

The Gallery provides a nurturing, semi-formal learning environment for pupils in Key Stages 2 and 3. Our specialist staff deliver a broad and engaging curriculum that develops strong foundations in literacy, numeracy and communication, alongside creative, practical and personal development opportunities that build confidence, independence and curiosity.

The site also benefits from a range of dedicated therapeutic spaces, including sensory and regulation areas, enabling pupils to access the support they need throughout the school day. Every aspect of The Gallery has been designed to create a calm, safe and welcoming environment where pupils feel they belong, develop resilience and flourish both academically and personally.

The Hub

The Hub provides a specialist learning environment for pupils in Key Stage 4 and Post-16, with a strong focus on preparation for adulthood, independence and successful transitions beyond school. The curriculum is designed to develop the knowledge, confidence and practical skills that enable young people to take their next steps into further education, employment, training or independent living.

Alongside Functional Skills, vocational learning and personalised pathways, pupils benefit from a wide range of enrichment opportunities that promote resilience, teamwork and personal development. Outdoor learning, community engagement and real-life experiences are integral to life at The Hub, helping pupils build confidence beyond the classroom.

The site offers a range of specialist facilities, including a sports hall, fitness suite, sensory and regulation spaces, and welcoming social areas where pupils can relax and develop positive relationships with their peers. Pupils also enjoy regular access to outdoor adventure activities, where they challenge themselves through experiences such as climbing, canoeing and mountain biking, developing confidence, perseverance and self-belief in the process.

Everything at The Hub is designed to support young people as they prepare for adulthood, ensuring they leave Meadowcroft with the skills, independence and ambition to thrive in the next stage of their lives.

The Works

The Works is located in the heart of Wakefield city centre, just a six-minute walk from Wakefield Westgate railway station. Purpose-built to provide high-quality vocational and academic learning, the site offers modern specialist facilities across two floors, creating an inspiring environment where pupils can develop practical skills, gain recognised qualifications and prepare for future careers.

Designed for pupils following a more formal Key Stage 4 pathway, The Works combines high expectations with personalised support. Alongside core GCSE and academic studies, pupils have access to industry-standard vocational learning delivered by experienced subject specialists, enabling them to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed for further education, apprenticeships and employment.
